Bulgarian foundation “Psoriasis”

Foundation “Psoriasis” unites patients suffering from psoriasis in Bulgaria. It was found on November 20th 2000 by Prof. Neli Kiriakova. The foundation “Psoriasis” is a member of the European Federation of psoriatic associations (EUROPSO). Due to the close relationship between the psoriasis group and the “Psoriasis” foundation thalassotherapy of psoriatic patients have been conducted every year at the Black Sea coast. The Bulgarian dermatological school has more than 40-year experience in investigation and application of the beneficial properties of natural sun-light and the Black Sea water for treating patients suffering from psoriasis. The geographical and climatic conditions at the Black Sea coast make the treatment with thalassotherapy very effective and tolerable. Due to the membership of the Bulgarian foundation “Psoriasis” in EUROPSO many psoriatic patients from different European countries have experienced the benefits of thalassotherapy at the Black Sea. In May 2002 the annual meeting of EUROSPO was held in Albena – one of the most beautiful sea-side resorts in Bulgaria.

The collaboration between the psoriasis group and the patients’ foundation is achieved through conducting thalassotherapy of psoriatic patients at the Black Sea coast and also through annual meetings which are held for educational and organizing purposes. Subjects such as current treatment guidelines of psoriasis, new systemic therapies for psoriasis, patient’s quality of life are also discussed during these meetings. A common initiative of the psoriasis group and the foundation is the issue of a booklet on psoriasis for psoriatic patients. This booklet will appear this year.
